FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why should I get American Heart Association Certification instead of Red Cross Certification? What's the difference?

American Heart Association BLS certification is the industry gold standard - it is the type of certification required by most clinics, hospitals, and in other healthcare settings. The American Heart Association also puts more funding into research than Red Cross, and therefore has more data to help develop CPR and First Aid protocols that are as effective as possible.

Which course is best for me, BLS or First Aid?

  • BLS is the certification needed to work in clinical settings. You will learn how to perform CPR, as well as how to respond in a choking emergency.

  • First Aid goes over more emergency situations, such as bleeding emergencies, anaphylaxis, and more. It also briefly covers CPR and choking. This certification is usually needed for those working as a coach or working with children.

How much do the courses cost?

Both BLS and First Aid courses are $60, but we offer the course for the discounted of $40

The course is too expensive for me! Is there a discount?

Yes, there is a discount! We know the cost of $60 for a CPR/First Aid course is difficult for many to pay, so we partnered with PDRE to get a discount. Use the link in our course registration to pay only $40 for your course!

Should I buy the BLS handbook?

That's up to you! It is not mandatory to buy the handbook, but if you would like an in depth textbook to review and brush up on your skills later, you should buy it.

Will I receive the new versions of the BLS Handbook if I bought an older version?

Unfortunately, no. Purchasing the BLS Handbook is exactly like purchasing school textbooks. If you buy the 1st Edition, and a 2nd Edition comes out, you will have to buy the 2nd Edition as well. However, updates to CPR and First Aid protocols are posted on the American Heart Association Website annually.

How long is the course?

  • Both BLS and First Aid courses are 3 hours long. We will never go over 3 hours.

Will there be a test at the end of the course?

Yes. Don't worry though, the test is only 24 questions and you only need an 84% to pass. Also, before the test, we can answer any questions you may have, and we will have a review session so you feel prepared and confident.

Should I bring anything with me to the course?

We recommend bringing water and a snack. If you would like to take notes on the course, you can bring pen/paper/laptop, but it is not mandatory. If you can bring a smart phone, tablet or laptop it will make the check in and check out for the course easier, but it is not required.

Where do I park?

  • Parking will depend on if you want to paid/non paid parking and if its the weekend/weekday. Click Here for a link to a UC Riverside campus map and options on where to park and how to pay.
